La Bête
By David Hirson
Directed by Joe Hilsee
The Blue Room Theatre is proud to present the grand finale of our 2002 Fall Season: La Bête by David Hirson, playing Thursday, December 5-Saturday, December 21.
Welcome to 17th century France, where a famous acting troupe is
Performing despite their brutal bickering off-stage over content versus style. Inspired by Molière and written entirely in verse, this witty and wild play won an Oliver Award in 1992 for best comedy of the year. It is remarkably funny in its inventiveness: poetic verse and slapstick wackiness!
This feast of rhyme and wit revolves around Emolire, the leader of a
Famous acting troupe, as he struggles to please his fickle patron, the
Prince of Conti. Sparks fly as Elomire is forced to cast the Prince's favorite, Valere, a swaggering braggart with delusions of artistic grandeur, in the troupe's upcoming production. A whirlwind of chaos and comedy ensues. Come enjoy this brilliant tribute to Molière's comic genius. Directed by Joe Hilsee, the Blue Room's Artistic Director and featuring local favorite Jerry Miller as Valere, this production features some of both the Blue Room Theatre Company and greater Chico-area's finest at their funniest!
La Bête will be performed at the Blue Room Theatre December 5-21 every
Thursday through Saturday. (No show Sat. Dec. 7 because the cast will perform at the 2002 Fall Ball call or click for more info.) There will be one Sunday evening performance on December 15. All shows will be at 7:30. Tickets are $10 general, $8 students and seniors on Friday and Saturdays; on Thursdays all seats are $5.
