On the Verge

By Eric Overmeyer

Directed by Margot Melcon

The Blue Room Theatre is proud to present a hilariously adventureous comedy, the fifth installment of the Fall 2002 Season, On The Verge by Eric Overmyer, playing Thursday, November 7-Saturday, November 23.

One of modern America’s most notable playwrights, Overmyer has achieved success with a unique focus on language, using words to evoke images and catapult the characters forward at breakneck speed. His comedies are wildly popular—the strength of On The Verge lies in the witty bantering of three Victorian-era American ladies. Director Margot Melcon envisioned as a National Geographic take on Charlie’s Angel’s: there’s a blonde, a brunette and a redhead, out exploring new worlds together, but each for her own reasons, seeking something different. Melcon, who is Managing Director of the Blue Room Theatre, is pleased to direct her second Blue Room production.

This threesome of protagonists brings the audience along as they travel beyond boundaries into Terra Incognita, the undiscovered countries of the natural world and the imagination. The comedic quality of their antics stretches from witty word play to the purely slapstick. So break out your dictionary and follow Alex (Shanna Walsh), Fanny (Alice Wiley Pickett) and Mary (Sheri Bagley) as they travel from one end of the imagination to another, and encounter many strange characters along the way, from a Yeti, to a Lounge Singer, to a cannibal from Alcasce-Lorraine (all played by Rob Wilson).

On The Verge will be performed at the Blue Room Theatre November 7-23 every Thursday through Saturday. There will be one Sunday evening performance on November 17. All shows will be at 7:30. Tickets are $10 general, $8 students and seniors on Friday and Saturdays; on Thursdays all seats are $5.
